Penelope Bridgerton (née Featherington) is Colin's wife and Eloise's childhood friend. She eventually marries Colin, and has four children with him. The third season of Bridgerton, the Netflix series, is based on her love story with Colin.

Penelope, contrary to Regency-era social standards, is a short, plump, and curvaceous woman with wide hips, standing approximately 5 feet 2 inches tall. She is forced to wear her mother Portia's ideal wardrobe, primarily bright yellow and orange dresses. Her hair is often curled and pinned back with many ornaments. Penelope, through Lady Whistledown, often compared herself (and her sisters) to citrus fruits.
Penelope is not a sophisticated beauty, but she is quite attractive in her own particular, uncomplicated way, with good humor and personality. She has pleasant features, a face lightly sprinkled with freckles, and very fair, charming skin, that perfect peaches-and-cream shade. She has auburn hair, a small birthmark near her left earlobe, brown eyes with flecks of gold near the pupil, and full, wide lips. Penelope had always been chubby, but over the years she lost several pounds, although she still didn't come close to the slender female body ideal that reigned at the time.

She is strong and perceptive, and uses the worst of situations to her advantage. Due to her singular interest in books and romance, Penelope has always felt alone in the home of her socially ascendant mother and her equally ambitious older sisters.
As a result, she struggles to stand out in society, often hiding in large gatherings. But when the Bridgertons embrace Penelope for her intelligence and charm, she finds the family she never had and hopes she can be a part of her future.
