Marina Crane (née Thompson) is Oliver and Amanda Crane's mother.

Initially, she was engaged to George Crane but when he dies during war in Waterloo, Belgium, she marries his brother, Phillip, who wishes to honor his brother’s promises and to give his brother’s children a home. Marina and Phillip’s marriage is one of expedience, not love. Marina gives birth to twins, Oliver and Amanda, and she struggles from what a modern doctor would likely diagnose as postpartum depression; repeatedly crying after giving birth. She never improves, even years later. She eventually decided to take her own life by attempting to drown in a lake near her home, only to be found by her husband, Phillip, who dragged her out. She, however, died from a lung fever three days later.

She becomes pregnant quickly after falling for George Crane, she writes him to tell him that she is with child. However, she never heard from him, and attempted to be courted by Colin Bridgerton. After George's Death, George's brother, Phillip shows up and offers to marry her as well as to claim and happily offers to raise as his own. She initially rejects his proposal, but eventually accepts and moves into his home in Gloucestershire. Surprisingly, she gives birth to twins, which are named Oliver and Amanda. It is clear that their relationship is very platonic and not a love match.
While in the Quinn novels Marina is a Bridgerton cousin, in the Netflix series she is made a Featherington relation instead, perhaps to avoid a family connection when Marina is briefly engaged to Colin Bridgerton.

Marina and Phillip had a loveless marriage with no passion. They had twins together, but were never in love. She was initially engaged to his brother, George, but after his death, she married Phillip.

Marina is the cousin of Penelope Featherington and her sisters, Prudence Featherington and Philippa Finch. Penelope and Marina were good friends for some time until Penelope grew jealous of her cousin and Colin’s romantic interest in one another.
Portia Featherington is elder cousin of Marina. She was one of the first to discover Marina’s pregnancy and pushed her to attempt to marry older suitors.
